Twenty Years Ago Today
Twenty years ago today, Jay came to visit me from Tennessee. At the time, neither of us knew that a simple visit would change the entire course of our lives. What started as two people spending time together quickly became something bigger, something that felt steady and right in a world that is rarely either of those things.
Two weeks later, Jay made a decision that still makes me smile when I think about it, he packed up his life in Tennessee and moved to Texas to be with me and my kids. It wasn’t the easy choice, but it was the one that spoke to his heart. That leap of faith set us on the path to the life we would build together.
On May 7, 2006, we sealed that promise with marriage. It wasn’t just about rings or vows, it was about two people choosing each other fully, knowing that life would bring challenges but also joy, laughter, and love deep enough to carry us through.
Looking back now, I see how those decisions, one visit, one move, one wedding day, created a foundation of love and partnership that continues to shape me, even after his passing. These anniversaries aren’t just dates on a calendar. They’re reminders of the moments where love took root, grew, and continues to live on.
Jay may not be here physically, but the impact of those choices, and of the life we shared, still surrounds me every day.
